Joseph Griffen is a cinematographer born in Aotearoa/New Zealand living and working in Sydney/Australia.
Working alongside longterm collaborator @_pictvre_, Joseph creates imagery across worlds of fashion, music, and art. The pair have created countless campaigns for Aotearoa’s top fashion labels, tour visuals for Lorde, and content for such media platforms as i-D Magazine.
An interest in the surreal nature of light and form sees Griffen explore the visual possibilities of portraiture and still life across multiple media. With a keen eye to optical phenomena, his expertise in analogue film brings a grounded and timeless materiality to each image.
Joseph is co-founder of renowned artist-run spaces FERARI (2012-2014), and ROCKIES (2014-2016) and has also exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery of New Zealand. He obtained his Master’s Degree (MFA) from the Elam School of Fine Arts (Auckland) in 2011
